There’s a long way to go until 2018 arrive but we can already name some of the most anticipated models that will come for that year. From the first look at the list, we can tell that supermini and SUV vehicles are going to dominate.
Some of the best models for 2016 and 2017 were from these segments, and things will remain the same for the years to come. At least according to car manufacturers that are now more focused on these cars because they are creating record sales and profits for them.
In the SUV segment, we already have quite a few models announced, and, some of the most notable are BMW X2, VW Touareg, and Skoda Yeti. In addition to new models from already existing lineups, we will have some completely new installments like the Tesla Model 3, BMW i8 Roadster and Toyota Supra.
In order to give our audience, a better look at upcoming 2018 models we created this list. Enjoy!
Audi A1
This model from Audi, like many others in this list, will arrive in 2018. Expected price is to be in a region of $18,400. A1 was born and lived most of its life, since introduction in 2010, in the shadow of dominant MINI. Now, this model is entering in his second generation and is ready to fight off any rival.
2018 Audi A1 will not be a completely new vehicle, but it will definitely be improved in many ways. Most of the changes will happen on the inside, as we are accustomed by Audi not to make any revolutionary upgrades to the exterior. The accent will be on new technology and more quality on materials used.
It will be based on VW MQB platform which can be considered as a guarantee that this car will be fun to drive.
Audi Q6 E-Tron
Q6 will be first fully electric SUV from Audi. It will not be created as a variation of an already existing model, but it will instead be an independent vehicle with the addition of E-Tron badge. As you can tell from the name, it will be deployed between Q5 and Q7 in the Audi lineup. Preview for this one was given with the E-Tron Quattro that made its debut at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The car will be powered by three electric motors and a battery that is rumored to provide 311 miles of range. Another impressive feature will be 0-60 acceleration which is done in 4.6 seconds placing it in the elite company of high-powered models.
This SUV could be yours at a rumored price of $73,600.
Audi Q8
Audi Q8 is Audi’s plan to overthrow Range Rover from large luxury SUV throne. When your destiny is to be a flagship SUV in German car maker lineup, everything is possible.
It will bring the top of the line interior of highest luxury that is expected when you are a model that is representing your range. V6 diesel is there to offer enough performance but for those who want more V8 will also come in SQ8 model.
Biggest SUV in Audi’s history won’t come cheap, so if you wish to own one, $85,800 is your price for the base version.
BMW i8 Roadster
The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid supercar. The regular version has been around for some time now. To be more accurate it debuted at 2012 Beijing Auto Show. Now the time has come for the open-top version to step of the production line.
Same as a base model this one will also be powered by 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and one electric motor. Creating an i8 without a roof was not very difficult because this model is made completely out of carbon fiber and reinforced plastic. The only fact that remains to be seen is whether the roof will be hard-top or will it be built out of some softer fabric. The price for this unorthodox supercar is $153,300.
BMW X2
In order to fill its lineup BMW is introducing another SUV. This time around it will be Coupe-SUV named X2. What we know is that it will sit between X1 and X3 models as one of the smallest SUVs in German lineup. Same as with previous vehicles from X range X2 was first presented as a concept and it made its debut at this years Paris Motor Show.
X2 will be sporty-like coupe SUV and it will just like X4 and X6 come only in premium trims. As a result, the price will also be premium and early reports suggest something in the range of $36,800.
BMW X3
BMW X3 is not a new model, but it will have some significant changes for 2018. Most of it will happen in the interior rather than on exterior and engine department. The 2018 BMW X3 will be built on a completely new chassis that is shared between 5-Series and 3-Series and the X3 mentioned above.
With its aluminum underpinnings, X3 will be lighter and as such will have improved fuel economy. Upgraded platform enabled X3 to become larger and that way to be more different from X1 and X2.
Price for this beauty will be starting at about $41,700.
BMW X7
In order to compete with Audi’s upcoming Q8, BMW is planning to launch large SUV of their own. This monster from German luxury brand will carry X7 nameplate as is to be expected. Besides Q8, X7 is being aimed at some of the biggest and most luxurious SUVs like Bentayga and Range Rover. The running gear on X7 will be borrowed from Rolls-Royce’s representative in this segment, but powertrains will be BMW’s six and eight-cylinder engines. Unofficially there will also be a plug-in hybrid on offer.
Tech-wise X7 will be state of the art model that will draw its interior design cues from already presented 7-Series of the latest generation. The price of $73,600 or something similar looks realistic.
BMW Z4
For a price of $36,000, you will be able to purchase latest BMW’s drop-top model Z4. With a completely new generation on the way, BMW will be more than ready to compete with Audi TT and Porsche 718 Boxster.
The product of Toyota and BMW cooperation will be a two-seater RWD roadster that will share some of the traits with upcoming Toyota Supra. Z4 will be powered by petrol engine from BMW lineup with 3.0-liter twin-turbo from M3 definitely being as one of the most likely choices.
Citroen C4
The current edition of C4 has been around for some time now. Citroen’s favorite hatch has somehow always been lurking on the sidelines. If judging by the new design, this one is finally ready to sit in the front rows.
The new model is being inspired by other cars from current Citroen lineup. Modern design is being borrowed from models such as C4 Picasso, C4 Cactus, and supermini C3. With a price of $18,400 and more than good design and technology C4 could reach high sale numbers in 2018.
Honda CR-V
The main difference between ongoing CR-V and the upcoming one is the number of seats offered. This is the first time that CR-V will be sold as a 7-seater SUV. The 2018 model will be larger than the previous installment in order to compete with new rivals including Nissan X-Trail, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and Kia Sorrento.
The car will be built on a platform already seen on Mk10 Civic which will be completely new for CR-V. The design-wise new vehicle will be just another step in cars evolution without any large changes.
Being already a Honda’s best-seller new CR-V is aiming at enlarging its practicality to be even more attractive to buyers especially in UK and Europe. With a price of $29,400 2018 Honda CR-V could do just that.
Mercedes A-Class
Mercedes A-Class is already good-looking hatchback. With advantages that the new platform offers and with small improvements on older design cues, it will look even better. Upgraded version is aiming to improve its comfort and cargo space as it will be bigger than ever.
The engine range will receive few touches, and it will feature more than a few petrol and diesel powertrains while the AMG version will be ready to take on any performance oriented rival. With a base price of $24,500, this model will be a bargain if we take a look at what it offers.
Renault Sport Megane
New Megane Sport is a car certainly worth of your attention. With the previous version being a record holder for a lap time at Nurburgring (front wheel drive vehicles), at that time, this model is looking to reclaim its throne. There aren’t many FWD cars that can compete with Renault Megane Sport.
If it’s good don’t change it, this is Renault’s motto so they will stay loyal to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 300 bhp attained trough art of fine tuning. The transmission will be either six-speed manual or twin-clutch automatic one.
By looking at the spy shots, you can tell that it will come as a five-door model but with a very sporty design. There is still not a word about coupe version.
With a price of $33,000 it doesn’t come cheap but it has a lot to offer.
Skoda Yeti
If you are looking for a cheap crossover, you can check out Skoda Yeti that will be offered at $19,600. In 2018 it will bring new design similar to the one of the Kodiaq and will for the first time offer a hybrid option. New Yeti will be larger than its predecessor as it will share its platform with the latest SEAT Ateca. Resulting in more comfort and bigger cargo space close to 510 liters. The only option that will be short on space is hybrid one because of space necessary for storing its battery.
In addition to a hybrid powertrain, there will also be petrol and diesel engines borrowed from VW range. Some of those are 1.6 and 2.0-liter oil burners that are targeting UK market while the 1.0-liter petrol is the one that should attract potential customers with its small fuel consumption.
Tesla Model 3
This is one of the most anticipated and most in-demand vehicles for 2018. High profile car manufacturer Tesla announced their newest addition earlier this year and so far they have 373,000 orders and reservations from all around the world. This car will be smaller and more affordable version of Tesla’s Model S.
Looking at how Model S rivals BMW 5-Series it is expected for Model 3 to compete with BMW’s 3-Series. Being a fully electric car it will have no direct opponent, but in terms of design and performances, it will have quite a few. With a price of $36,724, it will certainly find a huge number of admirers.
Tesla Model 3 will feature a battery that promises 215 miles of fully electrical range, 0-60 in six seconds and even more powerful motors that could be added at a later date to attract speed enthusiasts.
The autopilot will be offered as a standard part of the equipment, but unlike Model S, Model 3 won’t have free access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Tesla Pickup Truck
One of the largest markets in the America is definitely a pickup-truck market. That’s why Tesla is planning to introduce fully-electric truck in order to compete with F-150, RAM 1500, Chevy Colorado and others.
Currently, this hasn’t being confirmed for production, and only ideas that we have are coming from unofficial computer renderings. If these are anything to go by the Tesla’s truck will be bit smaller than the competition, lighter with the goal to accommodate passengers more than to be used for towing and loading. This is only an assumption because there is no word of any traits that Tesla Pickup could or would have.
With an estimated price of $48,900, it would have a tough time fighting much cheaper competition unless it offers something really extraordinary. The latter one can be expected from Tesla, we all know that.
Toyota Supra
By now we all have heard about Supra’s resurrection. The name sounds too good, and its popularity wasn’t negligible, so it’s no wonder that Toyota decided to reinstall it.
New Supra is a product of BMW and Toyota cooperation, but while Supra is going to be a completely new model, BMW’s counterpart will be a replacement for outgoing Z4.
Both cars will have engines positioned on front part of the car, while the power will be delivered exclusively to the rear wheels. Design style will be probably borrowed from FT-1 Concept. Not all of it but some of the traces of FT-1 can already be seen on Supra’s test-mules.
The powertrain will most likely be a straight-six turbo petrol with rumors about hybrid also being in the mix. With a price of $61,200 Supra won’t come cheap but Toyota is guaranteeing us with its quality.
Volkswagen Polo
The price of $14,600 for a new Polo makes it one of the most affordable models from supermini segment. It will be built on VW’s MQB platform same as Audi A1 with an accent on the improved interior, passengers space and enlarged cargo area.
Under the hood, you will find a range of very efficient petrol and diesel engines. Being a small car like Polo the accent will be on petrol units. For speed lovers, there will be GTI model included in the lineup.
Volkswagen Polo SUV
Besides regular Polo, VW is planning on bringing up an SUV version of the model mentioned above in order to rival Nissan’s Juke.
Engines and platform will be shared with regular Polo, but it will be, as expected, built on a slightly modified base. Styling will be almost the same as on T-Cross concept so it will look more SUV-like than the regular version. Despite the fact that most of the rivals in this segment have AWD this SUV will come without it.
Price will be close to $18,300, and we think that Polo SUV has a good chance to succeed.
Volkswagen Touareg
A new platform which is shared with Bentayga and Audi Q7 will make new Touareg lighter and more efficient. Use of lightweight materials is getting the best of this and many other VW models.
Sources are saying that Touareg will come both as diesel and as a plug-in hybrid. The new version was previewed by T-Prime Concept earlier this year at Beijing Motor Show which was a way to announce that new 7-seater SUV is on the way in addition to regular Touareg.
Price for the VW’s biggest SUV will be at about $48,900.
