Former Aussie Formula 1 driver Mark Webber has announced his retirement from professional racing right after the end of the world endurance season in Bahrain in November.
As the fans probably know Mark Webber has left the cockpit of Formula One back in 2013, after which he joined Porsche in 2014 to compete in the World Endurance Championship. One year later he helped Porsche reach a win in that competition. Now he stated that he would retire from professional racing right after the World Endurance Championship 6 Hours event in Bahrain on November 19. He said, on that topic “I will miss the sheer speed, downforce and competition, but I want to leave on a high and I’m very much looking forward to my new tasks”.
In his Formula One career, Webber won nine Grand Prix’s with Red Bull and has racked up 215 Formula One races behind his belt with famous constructors such as Red Bull, Minardi, Jaguar and Williams. Furthermore, he won third place in the Formula One driver’s championship for two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011 and again in 2013. In his latest feats as a member of Porsche, he managed to swoop a 2015 World Endurance Championship title with Germany’s Timo Bernhard and New Zealander Brendon Hartley. He stated “It was a big change from Formula One to LMP1 (Le Mans Prototype) and an entirely new experience. But it came at the right time for me”, and added, “It will be strange getting into the race car for the very last time in Bahrain but for now I will thoroughly enjoy every moment of the remaining races”.
