At the event in Beijing, Xiaomi introduced their two new phones – Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus. The starting price for the Mi 5S is 1,999 Yuan ($299) whereas the Mi 5S Plus will be more expensive and it will be priced at 2,299 Yuan ($345).
The rumors about these smartphones turned out to be true. Their design will be completely made out of metal, comparing to the Mi 5 which had a glass in addition.
Although they are similar in design, they differentiate in terms of features and specifications. The Mi 5S is smaller with 5.15-inch Full HD display which resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. Moreover, the Mi 5S will be available either with 3GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage or with 4GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage.
Both phones have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 64-bit octa-core processor, but the Plus model comes with Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. The rear camera of Mi 5S has 12MP and it is equipped with Sony’s IMX378 sensor. On the other hand, the front camera will not capture photos that sharp since it only has 4MP.
Moreover, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is integrated into the Mi 5S, instead of the home button in Mi 5 model. The scanner is based on the latest Qualcomm’s Sense ID technology.
You will be able to find the Mi 5S in silver, dark gray, pink gold and gold colors. Furthermore, 1,999 Yuan ($299) will be the starting price for the 3GB RAM variant and the 4GB RAM will cost 2,299 Yuan ($345).
The other smartphone, Mi 5S Plus is larger and it comes with 5.7-inch QHD display. Just like the Mi 5S, this model comes in different variants. The first variant is with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage whereas the second option is with 6GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage.
It appears that the Mi 5S Plus has the dual-camera setup inserted on the back of the phone. This is interesting because the same camera can be found on iPhone 7 Plus which came out earlier this year. The camera is powerful, though, since it has two 13 MP snappers.
The choice of colors is not that wide for Mi 5S Plus. It will be available in pink, gold and silver. You will be able to afford the base model with 4GB RAM for 2,299 Yuan ($345). For the variant with 6GB RAM, you will have to pay 2,599 Yuan ($389).
In China, you will be able to buy this phone through a flash sale on September 29.
