The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica with the highest recognition this organization has to offer. Safety is one of the most significant areas when we talk about minivans and now the Chrysler can brag as they have the new safety king – the 2017 Pacifica.
Considering that the 72 percent of car body was made out of high-strength steel, it is no surprise that the Pacifica earned all “Good” scores in the IIHS’s crash tests. Moreover, the car is equipped with more than 100 safety features.
Earning the Top Safety Pick+ separates the Pacifica from other minivans. The previous cars that were named Top Safety Picks were 2016 Honda Odyssey and Kia Sedona, but the difference between them and the Pacifica is that the new Chrysler earned a plus recognition. Both of the aforementioned cars had “Basic” ratings comparing to the “Superior” rating earned by the Pacifica for frontal crash avoidance and mitigation technologies. The Chrysler was the best simply because of the abundance of sensors radars, and the most important of all – automatic emergency braking.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration still hasn’t released their report about the car.
With this recognition, Chrysler gets a much-needed reputation among minivans, since lately they have got beaten by the rivals Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. Hopefully, this recognition will help them get back on track, considering that the Town and Country sales nosedived 32% between the last two years, putting Chrysler behind the Japanese automakers.
It’s been a long way since the FCA had had the leading role in the minivan segment. However, the sales of the Town and Country together with the Dodge Grand Caravan have kept them steady on course. These two cars earned the recognition in 2013, but they have been quiet ever since. They were “Poor” in the small front overlap crash test.
The reputation of Chrysler is certainly threatened by the competition, but they hope that the fashionable and spacious 2017 Chrysler Pacifica with the strong safety ratings will be able to hold its own.
