It’s clear that Dallas’ Running Back Ezekiel Elliot didn’t live to the preseason hype. Around 2,5 yards per carry in Week 1, and two fumbles in Week 2. That’s just not good enough for a guy that was taken with the 4th overall pick in the Draft.
Two lackluster performances for a guy that has the best offensive line at his disposal has the people wondering if he has what it takes to be a great RB in the NFL. Some people think that it’s time for Alfred Morris to take over his starting position, but people in the Cowboys organization are behind their first-round draft choice.
Jason Garrett is one of them. He believes in his running back and is willing to stick with him in the coming weeks.
“We have confidence in Zeke”, coach Garrett said. “We thought he played a good ball game yesterday. He made strides from Week 1 to Week 2. He ran the ball hard. He ran the ball tough. He has handled the ball well through his career. He has strong hands. He does a good job with his ball security. He did that at Ohio State. He has done that for us up to this point.”
It’s understandable for people in Dallas’ camp to stick with Ezekiel Elliot as he was their first round choice. You never want your first rounder to sit on the bench behind a seasoned veteran.
But, the kid has something to prove. Ezekiel Elliot needs to perform in the coming games. He needs to justify the position that he’s in and the confidence that Garrett and owner Jerry Jones have in him.
