If you are familiar with the Game of Thrones series (and I can not think of a single reason why wouldn’t you be) than the headline isn’t that shocking to you. As you might know, Game of Thrones is probably among the top series in the budget department, where one episode cost an incredible $10 million. How in Gods name wouldn’t you break records with that?!
With the budget like that, Game of Thrones managed to grab 2016’s best directing, best writing and best dramatic series Emmy Awards which skyrocketed them in Emmy history. All of this was supported by God knows how much technical Emmy’s which put them right ahead of Frasier for the most Emmy’s won by a scripted TV Show. When we compare them to newcomers, they managed to snag a clear victory beneath the fingertips of Mr. Robot and The Americans. When we look back on the acting categories, there were some concerns which indicated that the Westeros crew might cancel each other out. Two supporting categories that were divided over five actors (Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Maisie Williams, Lena Heady and Emilia Clarke), managed to get away from them, probably thanks to new Emmy rules for voting (now allows voters to pick one favorite instead of ranking all the nominees). Ben Mendelson (Bloodline) and Dame Maggie Smith (Downtown Abby) stole their thunder in this department.
But nevertheless, the Game of Thrones is a TV series that from now on will be hard to forget or even dethrone anytime soon. What supports these claims is a fact that one of their episodes “Battle of the Bastards” managed to take a big chunk of the $10 million per episode and become more visually dazzling than most of the blockbusters that are in cinema right now. That is why it has won best drama writing (David Benioff and DB Weiss) and directing (Miguel Sapotchnik). I really think that this is what shows the greatness and commitment of firstly its producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as R.R. Martin thanks to who launched it all!
I should make an “honorable mention” if you like because this night wasn’t all about Game of Thrones and its cast. The People v. O.J. Simpson was also a big winner taking home five awards including best limited series, best writing for limited series, best actor, best actress and a supporting actor in a limited series.
