This week brought some details of the 2017 Toyota C-HR. Two premium variants will be hitting showrooms in Australia in the first quarter of 2017.
Toyota would like to place the C-HR higher than the more affordable models that the competition is having – Mazda CX-3 starts at $19,990, while CH-R is getting near the price of $25,000. That is the reason for using the term “premium”. But, final pricing still hasn’t been confirmed.

The two versions are called “Active” and ”Koba”. They are both planned to go one-on-one with the best versions of the Mazda, and even along with other competition – Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V, Mitsubishi ASX, Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X. As for the name Koba, it comes after the global chief engineer of the car – Hiroyuki Koba.
Australian versions will come with these features included: a big (6.1 inch) touchscreen with the so-called “infotainment system”, two-tiered front seat design, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning (with the steering assist). Furthermore, it will bring pre-collision warning system (with autonomous emergency braking-AEB), auto high beam and a rear-view camera as well.
18-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, privacy glass, and keyless entry and start – Koba model will include.
Whoever decides to buy a Toyota C-HR will be able to pick out of 8 exterior colors, including the fresh new “radiant green”. As for the configurations, both front- or all-wheel drive will be available. No matter which model you choose it will come with a new, 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 85kW and 185 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include either a manual with six speeds or continuously-variable automatic.

C-HR was designed to bring a more modern look than its conservatively-styled stablemates. Diamond was the main inspiration, both in interior and exterior. Buttons and switchgear feature shapes inspired by a diamonds, as well as door trim, headliner, and driver’s instrument needles.
But, the designers also thought about the contrast. Piano black finishes, satin silver trims, and blue lightning (for the switches).
We only have to wait for the prices now. Predictions for release date say – first quarter of 2017, that’s when the Australian launch is planned.
