In just of a couple of years, Dallas Cowboys team changed drastically. Players you used to watch every week on the field are no longer with the squad, and this is a new era. The current iteration of America’s Team looks completely different. Names such as Tony Romo, Jason Witten, and Dez Bryant are no longer on the roster.
Dak Prescott is now the team leader. He may have gotten this role sooner than he expected it, but this guy is no longer a rookie nor a sophomore, and he has worked with a lot of experienced players to get to the position where he is now. With Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield and Sean Lee commanding the defense, it is up to Prescott to lead the Cowboys to glory.
Young quarterback spoke to NBC’s Peter King about leadership and he gave credit to those who came before him and from whom he learned a great deal.
Peter King: “I find it really interesting that in the course of two years the Dallas Cowboys have lost their two most-noted leaders, Tony Romo one year, Jason Witten the next year. You’re 25 years old and you’re being asked to be the leader of one of the most storied franchises in all sports. How does that feel?”
Dak Prescott: “It’s a blessing. Growing up a Cowboys fan, always being a leader in every stage of football that I’ve been in, as you said just to only be 25 years old and being asked to take this lead… it’s been fun. I give credit to those two guys you said, Tony Romo and Jason Witten, of laying a good foundation and teaching me how to be a leader and wear the star the right way on and off the field. It’s easy when you have the type of guys that we have in this locker room and the team that we’ve got, so it’s fun.”
We never doubted that Prescott has always been a down-to-earth guy and he is aware of the role that he has in the Cowboys today. And now, he has a legitimate experience behind him. Dak has had great success in previous seasons, but he also experienced what it is like to struggle and adjust when things are not going your way. Hopefully, he is ready to show the entire nation that he is fit to lead America’s Team.
