Dallas Cowboys released Dez Bryant on Friday 13th. The date brought terrible luck to Dez, who in his eight years in Dallas wasn’t made teams captain. This was one of the things that former Cowboys No1 receiver resented to Big D franchise.
He wasn’t satisfied by the development. Many things didn’t go his way during the Friday meeting with Jerry Jones. Talking to Jane Slater of NFL Network Bryant said that “Garrett’s Guys’” cost him his job. They are to be blamed for his release. He was very vocal talking after his tenure with Dallas Cowboys ended: “Little do they know is, you know, they can wear that ‘C’ all they want to, but in that locker room … they know who they communicate with. Everybody knows where the real love is at. I’m not throwing anybody under the bus, but that’s the difference between me and them.”
One of the first payers taking about this development was Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. He said: “Yeah, obviously it’s sad news. That’s like a brother to me. You can put the football stuff behind you. What he meant to me as a person, what he meant to me as a brother. It’s tough to see him go.” Interestingly Dak was given the honor to be the team’s captain after only one season.
During the same interview, Dak said that he talked with Bryant after the release and that the two exchange text messages.
According to some rumors, Prescott was the one advocating for Bryant’s release in months that lead to it actually happening. When asked about this Dak denied the accusations: “I’m in my second year. As much as you want to say, ‘I want a say-so’ or this and that, those guys get paid a lot more than me. That’s what those guys get paid to do. That’s not my decision. I didn’t really know if it was happening. I can’t say I thought it would fully happen.”
Despite Dallas reinforcing their receiving corps, Bryant will be missed. Players such as Allen Hurns, Terrance Williams, Deonte Thompson and Cole Beasley are all good, but not yet on Bryant’s level, despite his decline.
Prescott is one fully aware of this: “Dez is going to be a hard guy to replace. He’s a talented guy. He will be missed.”
