Dwayne Johnson was overwhelmed by the support he received from fans after publicly admitting that he had issues with mental health and depression. This is something he went through, and depression is something he had to deal with in his past. In an interview that happened a few weeks ago, he said that was fighting depression on a few occasions during his life and career.
Now after the whole World heard this story, People’s Champ gave another interview, this time with Newsbeat, and described the fans response as “phenomenal.” Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle star said: “It was really overwhelming and thousands of people responded. It all started when I helped a man [a fan who was fighting his own battle with depression]. I said, ‘hey, you’re not alone, we all go through it.’ One of the most important things that I know helped me with the multiple times that I had gone through my own episodes of depression, was making sure that I was talking to people.”
This condition can be overcome, as Johnson success show us. After falling into depression as a 15-year-old who witnessed his mother’s suicide attempt, he is now Hollywood’s best-paid actor. Talking about this misfortunate event, former WWE wrestler said: “She got out of the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic. Big rigs and cars were swerving out of the way. I grabbed her and pulled her back on the gravel shoulder of the road. What’s crazy about that suicide attempt is that to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn’t.”
Johnson stated that he’s more than happy to share his experience in dealing with depression. With his enormous fan base, the best thing for him is to do this. It can be only a good thing for many people knowing that they are not alone and that depression can be beaten.
Dwayne Johnson didn’t only overcome depression, he beat it to a pulp. Today he’s the happy-go-lucky guy, who makes a world a better place for people around him and his fans. Johnson is a father of two, and soon to be three daughters, and once upon a time, The Rock was the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Scratch that, he still is! Not bad for someone who once was depressed, didn’t want to go anywhere, and was constantly crying, Not bad at all.
