Dwayne The Rock Johnson has become fan favorite in Hollywood through years. And, why wouldn’t he? The man has a nickname that describes him as hard and cold, and yet he’s not afraid to show his emotional side. In one of his most recent interviews the Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle star talked about his fight with depression.
People’s Champ said that his mental struggle started when he was just a teenager. In that period his mother tried to commit a suicide which had a devastating effect on young Johnson. Now, for the first time, Hollywood’s best-paid actor opened up and shared this story with his fans.
His struggle lasted for decades. It all started when he was just fifteen years old. In that fragile age, he witnesses his mother Ata suicide attempt. In addition to this sad event, entire Johnson’s family lived in poverty which also affected Dwayne’s psychological state.
Talking to a reporter from The Express, Fast & Furious superstar said: “She got out of the car on the Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic. Big rigs and cars were swerving out the way. I grabbed her and pulled her back on the gravel shoulder of the road. She has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn’t.”
Talking about those events even after years have passed still shakes up Johnson. He describes them as the “worst point” in his life: “I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly. We both healed, but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain. We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.”
Seeing such a massive movie star, and social media persona talking about themes such as depression is remarkably encouraging. The best thing would be if other Hollywood superstars would follow.
Former WWE wrestler is the best example that this condition can be overcome and defeated. After going through it all, he managed to attend college, pursue a football career, become the world’s most famous wrestler, and in the end to rule the Hollywood and social networks.
To top it all, he’s a down to earth guy who is always looking to help others.
