Dallas Cowboys have finally started to move in free agency. After two offensive tackles coming for a visit, they are now welcoming two wide receivers. And, there’s a chance that both will stay in Big D. In the next few days Dontrelle Inman and Justin Hunter will spend some time at Star in Frisco. The sources close to Cowboys officials claim that the team has had serious thoughts about signing them.
Justin Hunter is projected to be America’s Team speedy receiver they sought since free agency started. His job would be to replace Brice Butler. After the latter burned the bridges back to Dallas, The Boys have no intention of bringing him back. Hunter’s best season came in 2014 with Tennessee Titans. It was modest with 28 receptions for 498 yards and three touchdowns. But his speed gives him an ability to be a deep threat, and that’s what Cowboys are looking for.
Inman is opposite of this. He’s not a deep field threat. Dontrelle’s quality lies in the fact that he’s an excellent blocker. Which is something Cowboys need as they employ a run-first offensive scheme. Also, he is described as a strong route runner, which is definitely something Dallas’s offense lacks at WR positions.
The main thing Dallas front office wants to add to make the offense Dak-friendly is speed. But, Prescott could be a better QB if he had at least one good route-runner receiver. Inman’s best season came in 2016 with San Diego Chargers. He recorded 58 receptions, for 810 yards and four TDs. During that year he received quite a word of praise from his QB Phillip Rivers: “Dontrelle is a good player. He makes plays. He runs good routes. His main thing is he is dependable. You can count on him to run the right route, to play any position, to do his job every day.”
This description is precisely what Dallas Cowboys are looking for in a receiver. Because of this, it’s believed that their first choice is Inman. But, if they like what these two players show during their visit it wouldn’t come as a surprise that we see them both signed with Cowboys.
