There is only one team in entire NFL that hasn’t made a move in the free agency. Hopefully, after Cameron Fleming visits Dallas Cowboys, there won’t be any left. It’s been one week since FA started and this is the first motion in the Big D camp.
Fleming has been a member of New England Patriots for the last four years. The visit is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at the Star in Frisco.
What Cowboys are looking for in Fleming is his ability to play a tackle on both sides. And that’s precisely how the squad intend to use him. Last year America’s Team experimented with Byron Bell and Chaz Green. The latter one will be remembered by Falcons fans and Dak Prescott. Why? Well, when he was filling for LT Tyron Smith in the game vs. Atlanta Falcons, Adrian Clayborn recorded six sacks playing directly against him. Signing Fleming will signal that La’el Collins will be back at guard position after playing right tackle in 2017.
But, don’t think that Cameron was only a backup tackle in New England. He started 27 games since being drafted in the fourth round of 2014 draft. He also has experience playing in Super Bowl. Fleming would be deployed both at right and left tackle filling for Collins and Smith. Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan believes that their O-line is stronger with Collins playing guard alongside Zack Martin and center Travis Frederick.
Another player who is joining Cameron Fleming during his visit to the Cowboys is Marcus Martin. This player started in 24 games for San Francisco 49ers during three years before moving to Cleveland Browns. In 2017 he failed to make an appearance for Browns. His role would be to be a backup at guard/center instead Joe Looney who could leave Dallas in free agency.
Now, these two players aren’t big names FA that fans were hoping for, but it’s good to know that Cowboys have finally moved. Even if it’s only for an inch.
