As things stand right now, one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL will most likely be on the lookout for a new home. But, is he interested in a real estate in Dallas? Richard Sherman will be cut by Seattle Seahawks as the team is entering a rebuild, and Cowboys are one of the teams that could show interest. America’s Team will part ways with Orlando Scandrick, and adding a player of Sherman’s experience and quality makes sense. He would be an excellent role model for their young secondary.
Releasing Sherman makes sense for Seahawks because that way they will save $11 million which they could invest in their weak offensive line. Also, they are in need of wide receivers which are not cheap to get. Sherman is more casualty of salary cap move than a roster one.
When Sherman hits the free market, the suitors will line up. Former Legion of Boom member is one of the best CB of the decade. Dallas is a team that could form a new defensive legion if they add Sherman.
Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, and Anthony Brown could improve vastly if they had Richard on the team to learn from. Another factor that puts Sherman as an ideal fit in Dallas is Kris Richard. Former Seahawks coach is now in Dallas and reunion of the two could happen.
The one thing that could deteriorate Cowboys from signing him is his injury history. He ended last season with a torn Achilles, and they can’t be sure will he be the same player upon his return. And his return is not yet on the table. Doctors aren’t sure that he will be ready for Week 1 of 2018 NFL Season.
Also, it is not known how much money Richard Sherman is going to ask from his future employers. He will most likely be going for a one year ‘prove it’ contract. But that one year might cost Cowboys in between $5 million and $8 million.
Dallas head office isn’t known as bank breakers in free agency, but they should look to change that. All they need to look at what Philadelphia Eagles did last year and where did that get them.
