Cowboys need to add a deep threat wide receiver whether through free agency or 2018 NFL draft. If they decide to spend their No19 draft pick on a WR, Christian Kirk could be their man.
One of the main issues Cowboys had last year was their receivers. Big plays were missing, and none of starting WR’s managed to get separation from opposing defenders on a consistent basis. Dez Bryant is having a down season, it is his third year in a row, Terrance Williams was invisible through most of the year, and Cole Beasley was shut out, both by opposing defenses and his quarterback who seemed to have lost confidence in him.
Most of all, what America’s Team missed was a deep threat receiver blessed with speed. Brice Butler supposed to be this player, but he doesn’t have the necessary ability, nor he was given a chance. Stephen Jones promised to make the offense more Dak-friendly and to do this they need to load their upfront with weapons.
A dynamic playmaker that could make the difference for Dak Prescott and Dallas Cowboys could be Christian Kirk. If he falls in Cowboys lap at No19, they shouldn’t hesitate to pick him up.
A former player who is now an analyst talked about Kirk on the Move The Sticks podcast: “They have talked about making this offense more Dak Friendly. That to me means their going to be more spread orientated, do some things that really fits the talents of the quarterback. But they need a route runner on the outside. They need someone that can get it down, stretch the field vertically, but also work the underneath areas. Christian Kirk could be that guy.”
The upcoming draft will be held in Dallas, at AT&T Stadium and Jerry Jones could make a statement by picking Texas A&M receiver Christina Kirk.
Standing at 5’11’, and 200 pounds he doesn’t fit the profile of an ideal NFL receiver. But what Cowboys need aren’t proportions but speed an playmaking ability. Last year Kirk recorded 71 receptions for 919 yards and ten touchdowns. He has all the qualities to be a starting receiver from Week 1 onward.
