Shazam! is coming out in 2019 and Warner Bros. has already released an official synopsis for the film. The movie will star Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Zachary Levi as Shazam. Meanwhile, the director of the new film will be David F. Sandberg, whereas screenwriters are Darren Lemke and Henry Gayden.
We have been waiting for Shazam! to come out for a long time, and Warner Bros. has taken their time with the project, so this better be good. Currently, Aquaman is in post-production, making the Shazam! the latest DCEU movie to enter production. Comic book readers have a general idea of the plot, but here is the official synopsis:
“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still, a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”
The company also unveiled the central cast member and Jack Dylan Grazer who will play Freddy, Billy’s best friend will join the crew and so will Grace Fulton and Faithe Herman as Mary and Darla. Additionally, The Walking Dead’s Cooper Andrews and No Tomorrow’s Marta Millans will be the family’s foster parents, whereas Ron Cephas Jones will take the role of the Wizard.
What is interesting about Shazam! is that Dwayne Johnson will be executive producer. He is also going to play Shazam’s nemesis Teth Adam in an upcoming Black Adam standalone project. We are not sure whether Johnson will appear in Shazam! but a cameo role is always a possibility.
