Dallas Cowboys will focus on making the offense Dak-friendly in the offseason. This means that their priority is to bring in more receivers and maybe let some of their current ones go. What they want in their future WR is to have the necessary speed to pose a deep threat for opposing teams.
Last season Ezekiel Elliott missed six games, and during that stretch, Cowboys offense disappeared from radar. In order to avoid this scenario next year, if God forbid something happens to Elliott, Cowboys will need to add more weapons for Prescott. Their flaw last year was that offense was predictable more often than it should.
So, which speedy wide receiver could fit with America’s Team?
Let’s talk Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown. His career started in 2008 at Mars Hill College. He was named SAC Freshman of the Year after 27 catches for 619 yards, 1,472 all-purpose yards, and seven touchdowns. He sat out the next year, which came as a surprise, and then was transferred to Coffeyville Community College where he spent another year. After that, he joined Pittsburg State University.
After three years in Pittsburg, he applied for 2014 draft. During his three year stint with Pittsburg State University, he amassed 185 receptions, 3,380 receiving yards, and 34 touchdowns. With his 4.34 speed, he was also a notable player on special teams as punt return man. He was a three-time Little All-American as well as a three-time First-team All-MIAA receiver.
In the draft, he was picked up by Cardinals at No 91. During his rookie season, he had 48 receptions, 696 yards, and five touchdowns, four of which were game-winning. In his second year, his numbers were up. Seven touchdowns were a product of his 65 catches and 1,003 yards. His 2016 campaign was tempered by and hamstring injury. Brown recorded 39 receptions for 599 yards and only two touchdowns. Last season was the worst of his career, both due injury issues and Cardinals problems at the QB position.
Arizona franchise is coming through coach and QB retirement so they probably won’t deal with Brown’s contract and he will become a free agent.
Due to his drop in numbers in all receiving categories, he will most likely be willing to sign a one-year prove it contract with Cowboys. With his speed and agility, he has all the qualities that Cowboys are looking for right now. This is why Dallas franchise needs to take a look at what John Brown brings to the table.
