FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys came back home on Sunday from their visit to the Meadowlands, unfortunately, learning that their division opponents, the Eagles, had won and clinched the NFC East. The Eagles made a comeback against the LA Rams and secured the NFC East division.
It was inevitable that the Eagles would win the division since the Dallas had a four-game deficit before this weekend. On the other hand, the Cowboys still hope to clinch the wild-card spot, and they still have the same approach after the critical 30-10 win over Giants. Even though they won with 20 points, the game was tough.
‘Our backs are against the wall,’ wide receiver Cole Beasley stated. ‘We’ve got to take it one at a time and just keep going 1-0. That’s all we’re worried about.’
The victory over the Giants is the franchise’s 500th in history! Other than that, Jerry Jones had a jubilee of his own since it marked 200th win under his command.
The Cowboys are still part of the wild-card chase, and according to NFL.com, they are currently the fourth team outside the NFC wild-card bubble. Their record stands at (7-6), and they are behind Seattle (8-5), Detroit (7-6) and Green Bay (7-6).
Carolina (8-5) and Atlanta (8-5) would take the two wild-card spots if the season ended today.
Other teams didn’t help Dallas in their situation in Week 14. The teams we’ve mentioned above have won, except Seattle who will visit the AT&T Stadium in Week 16 for a Christmas Eve clash. Ezekiel Elliott is scheduled to return for that duel following his six-game suspension.
Jason Garrett, the head coach, promised a next-man-up approach without Elliott and some other players. Rod Smith and Alfred Morris had 131.5 rushing yards on average in the previous two wins while Smith also delivered two touchdowns, one of which was a rushing and one was receiving, in the last minutes to seal the faith of New York on Sunday.
On a greater scale, the Cowboys know that they have to win out every remaining game and get some help from other teams. If they want the wild-card spot, that is.
Jason Garret stated that they want to control what they can control.
‘We continue to play,’ linebacker Sean Lee said. ‘We know we have a great opportunity ahead of us and we’ve got to take it one game at a time. I know that’s cliché, but that’s the only way you do it if you want to get on a winning streak.’
