The NXT championship has changed quite a lot of hands in 2017. Before that, we usually had one guy or two guys tops having the title reign in a year. Fin Balor was a champion for almost a year. The same goes for Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura as they have been on top of the NXT for a while. Now, the things are different, and the title is changing hands more often.
Drew McIntyre won the NXT Championship from Bobby Roode back at the NXT Takeover Brooklyn. That was a bit surprising as nobody thought that Bobby was going to drop the belt and then make an appearance on Smackdown Live.
When McIntyre won the title, people thought that he is the next man to carry this brand until somebody from the Undisputed Era, likely Adam Cole. Andrade Cien Almas is a good performer, but if you asked most of the fans whether or not he was going to win the title ever in the NXT, most of them would give you a negative answer.
Well, with the help of Zelina Vega, he was able to get the job done. The crowd actually supported his championship win as Vega put his leg on the rope after the first Claymore and after he dodged the second one and turned into a victory.
Now, it seems that McIntyre tore his biceps during the match so maybe the WWE and the NXT officials called an audible during the fight and had the plans changed on the fly.
At the end of the day, Cien Almas is the new NXT Champion, and it is going to be very interesting to see who is going to challenge him for the title. Since he is a heel, it is likely going to be a babyface facing him at Takeover during Royal Rumble weekend.
