There is not going to be a championship match at the Survivor Series pay per view as the WWE booked this champion vs. champion battle between Brock Lesnar and Jinder Mahal as they are the Universal and the WWE champions. But, have those plans changed. Are we going to see a title switch just before the final dual branded pay per view of the year?
We knew that AJ Styles is going to be the next one in line to challenge Jinder for the biggest prize in the WWE. There is going to be one more SD Live branded PPV event in 2017, so everybody expected that the championship duel is going to take place at that show.
WWE surprised everybody by announcing that there is going to be a WWE Title match between Styles and Mahal this Tuesday! Now, there are a couple of things that can happen here and a few possible reasons for this fight taking place next week.
The most likely one is that WWE wants to boost the ratings after a bad episode of Smackdown Live ratings-wise this past Tuesday. They were competing with the Game 6 of the World Series which is the main reason why not a lot of people tuned into their program.
On the other hand, there is a chance that the company wants to take the belt of Mahal since he has had a lot of problems with his knees over the past couple of weeks. Whenever he wrestled during the live shows, he was taped up and was protecting his knee.
The third possible reason is that Styles vs. Lesnar is a much bigger deal than Mahal vs. Lesner. Maybe WWE realized that, and they want to change their main event for the Survivor Series.
Whatever it might be, we are going to have to wait for the next edition of SD Live in order to find out whats going to happen.
