After court decision to support Ezekiel Elliott’s six-game suspension, the Dallas Cowboys are getting ready for life without him. The pressure is now on Dak Prescott, their offensive line, and their trio of backup running backs.
Although most people predict them struggle in the next six weeks, the players on Cowboys roster are confident in their ability. Both backup RB’s and offensive linesman said that nothing changes for them.
Zack Martin, who is an All-Pro right guard said of the situation: “It really doesn’t. We’re going to run the exact same plays. Everyone is going to know what we’re running and it’s just whether or not we can execute for these guys to make plays.”
One of the players who will take some of Elliott’s burden is going to be Rod Smith. The starting RB role is reserved for Alfred Morris, while the first backup will be Darren McFadden. Former Oakland Raiders running back will be active for the first time this season.
Regarding the situation, Smith stated: “We’ve got some good backs in our room. We’re still confident, our team is confident. We’re going to go out there and do what we do. If one guy goes down, it’s next man up. That’s how you’ve got to look at it. You hate to see your boy going through this, but we still have his back, still support him. He wants us to keep the ball rolling so we’re definitely going to do that.”
The situation for Dallas Cowboys in NFC East looks even worse knowing that the leading team in the division, Philadelphia Eagles (7-1) acquired a player on a trade deadline. In the moments when America’s Team is having issues with their starting RB, Philly additionally strengthened their backfield. Jay Ajayi came from Miami Dolphins in exchange for a fourth-round pick in next year’s draft. Two things combined move Cowboys even further from the top of the NFC East.
Rod Smith said words of encouraged for entire Cowboys nation: “We ain’t worried about that. We’re going to do the same thing we did last week, just a different number.”
