Redskins went from bad to worse very fast. As if the loss against divisional rival Philadelphia Eagles wasn’t enough, their injury list just got longer. With their upcoming match against Dallas Cowboys, Jay Gruden has a tough task ahead of him. Sources are saying that he is more eager to give his players a day off rather than train them. Redskins coach just doesn’t want to risk any more injuries.
I order to rest his, both healthy and injured players; he won’t hold training sessions until Thursday. The list of injured players is very long and includes names such as Trent Williams, Morgan Moses, Brandon Scherff, and Spencer Long. Three out of those four players got themselves injured in the match vs. Eagles. Offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe is unavailable from earlier. During a press conference on Tuesday, Gruden said that there is a chance that Schreff will be available to play vs. Cowboys.
Jay Gruden stated: “I don’t have any linemen, so there will have to be some changes made. The majority of these guys will run through a brick wall for the Washington Redskins, that’s for sure, that’s why I love this group. But I also have to be smart and make sure I understand that this is a long year and I’ve got to make sure that these guys are healthy.”
The situation does look alarming for Redskins fans, the players named above are part of the offensive line. The long list of injured players also includes linebacker Preston Smith, safety Stefan McClure, cornerback Fabian Moreau, cornerback Bashaud Breel, running back Rob Kelley, linebacker Mason Foster, cornerback Josh Norman, safety Deshazor Everett, and offensive lineman Tyler Catalina. Interestingly all of these guys performed on Monday in Philly. Beaten up as they are, their plays on Sunday won’t be ineffective, but limited to say at least.
With so many players missing, Eagles defense managed to sack Kirk Cousins four times. Dallas Cowboys defense which is ranked 7th in the league in sacks per pass attempt, and had an outstanding afternoon in San Francisco, will be a tough opponent for Redskins. Also, patched as they are, this squad is coming off a short week which could prove costly. Hosting Cowboys who are full of confidence after 49ers win, and relatively healthy could prove difficult for them. The fight for NFC East is far from over despite Eagles early lead. The upcoming Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins match could determine who is Philly’s main rival this season.
