Conor McGregor, who has had a fantastic career in the UFC so far, wants to fight Floyd Mayweather despite the loss in August. McGregor had no boxing experience before the match against the unbeaten champ, Mayweather, so the defeat was not surprising.
The match was remembered as “The Money Fight” because both of them earned a substantial amount of money, while the match generated about £500 million in revenue. We are still waiting for Conor McGregor to announce his plans since he was challenged by the lightweight UFC champion Tony Ferguson, whereas Artem Lobov said: “I think I would like to see him defend the UFC lightweight belt.”
He added: “But the only other fight I would like to see over that one would be a rematch with Mayweather.
“Of course [McGregor would want a rematch]. You’re talking about the most competitive man on the planet. Trust me, he wants that win and that win is very, very close. Minor adjustments need to be made but I feel that we can get the win if we did it for the second time.”
During his fight with Mayweather, McGregor showed his skill especially in the early rounds, but Floyd’s experience and defensive skills were crucial for his victory. The fight ended in the 10th round, and McGregor earned the respect of the crowd even though he lost the match, which was considered to be a gimmick and nothing else by some.
The Irishman wants to fight his second boxing match against Paulie Malignaggi, but Lobov believes that he should defend the UFC title against Ferguson. Lobov said: “Tony Ferguson is a very tough fighter. He comes to fight…But I feel that his style suits Conor really well. He does take quite a lot of punishment. Even if you look at his fight against Edson Barboza, he was diving for those crazy takedowns not because everything was going well in the stand-up. He was going because he was getting rapped on his feet.”
“I feel that Conor is a lot more precise and has more power in his arms and his hands. I feel it would be a quick night for Tony,” concluded Lobov. Also, Mayweather has been working out lately, so we might see him back in the ring.
