Donald Trump met with Reince Priebus, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) in Washington on Thursday.
Trump held a meeting with Priebus regarding the rules in the convention particularly about delegates, according to CNN based on information from a GOP source familiar with the situation.
The Republican front-runner confirmed his meeting with the RNC Chairman in a tweet. Trump said, “Just had a very nice meeting with @Reince Priebus and the @GOP. Looking forward to bringing the Party together — and it will happen!”
GOP leaders oppose Trump
The meeting came after the Republican presidential front-runner decided not to honor his promise to support the Party’s eventual nominee. Throughout his campaign, Trump has a negative relationship with the leaders of the Republican Party.
GOP leaders strongly oppose Trump’s candidacy. Earlier this month, it was reported that they are preparing a 100-day campaign to deny him the presidential nomination.
The anti-Trump forces were also prepared to field an independent candidate in the general elections if the 100-day campaign fails. Their primary objective is to offer an alternative to traditional conservatives and to defend the principles of the Republican Party.
Trump’s remarks on abortion ignites outrage
Trump ignited an outrage yesterday after his remarks on abortion. During an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Mathews, the Republican front-runner said women having abortions deserved “some sort of punishment.”
He received a deluge of criticism because of that statement. Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton said Trump’s remarks on abortion were ‘unacceptable” and it very clear that he wants to repeal the fundamental right of women to make their own healthcare choice.
Governor John Kasich said Trump’s response on the issue was inappropriate, and women shouldn’t be punished. Senator Ted Cruz commented that Trump demonstrated that he “hasn’t seriously thought through issues.” He added,” We shouldn’t be talking about punishing women; we should affirm their dignity and the incredible gift they have to bring life into the world.”
The Republican front-runner reversed his position and clarified that the woman and the life in her womb are victims. The doctor or any other person performing the abortion should be held legally responsible if the Congress makes the practice illegal and the federal courts upheld the legislation.
