The whole drama surrounding Ezekiel Elliott has finally ended, and his six-game suspension is starting immediately as the running back will be out until November 30, when the Dallas Cowboys face the Washington Redskins. Since Elliott is out, Prescott will have to give 110 percent each night if he wants to lead his team to victory.
So far, Prescott has had the good season as he recorded 11 TDs and 1,192 passing yards and is on the pace to break the record from the previous season. However, he has already matched the number of interceptions from his rookie season, but two of those were dropped balls by receivers. Even though the Cowboys are a 2-3 team, Dak’s performances are on a much higher level.
Prescott was at a promotional event for Campbell’s Chunky Soup on Wednesday when he denied the fact that he has been doing more this year than the last. He said: “No, I mean I’m just playing the game. I get out there, and it’s just about what I’ve done through the week within the reps of our offense and just executing the plays that coach [Scott] Linehan calls for me.”
We know that this guy is humble and he won’t brag, but the victory versus the Arizona Cardinals was all him. He threw two TDs, escaped the pocket when things wouldn’t go as planned, had a touchdown run and completed 72 percent of his passes. Against the Los Angeles Rams, Prescott also had a good game with three TD passes and one interception, but he got cold from time to time. Despite that, he gave the Cowboys a chance to tie the game, but they ended up losing.
In a tough loss to the Green Bay Packers, it was fun to watch two elite QBs, Dak Prescott and legendary Aaron Rodgers compete against each other. Prescott had a 17-play drive that ended up with the TD with 1 minute, 13 seconds remaining on the clock. However, we all know what Rodgers can do with little time left.
Meanwhile, running back Ezekiel Elliott is going to miss the games against the Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles, but also even tougher opponents such as the Atlanta Falcons and the so-far undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. Two more matches that Elliott will miss and that shouldn’t be a problem for the Cowboys are against the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Chargers.
The good news for the Cowboys fans and Dak Prescott is that four out of six of the teams we have mentioned have pass defenses in the bottom half of the league. However, with elite running back in the backfield, will Prescott be able to throw accurately and find open targets? Last season was really amazing for the young QB as he led his team to 13 wins and only four interceptions for the entire season.
Now, once again, the Cowboys will have to rely on their QB just like they did with Tony Romo. Nobody believed that the team would find such a good quarterback so soon and Prescott, together with Elliott modified the Cowboys culture. Both of them had the unreal rookie seasons, and everybody expected more from them this year, completely forgetting about the “sophomore slump” caused by the work they put in during the offseason.
Be that as it may, Prescott is the one who will have to carry the entire team. Even though Elliott has been slightly inconsistent this season, he appeared to be the old-self from the last year against the Green Bay Packers and just when he started playing well, the suspension gets enforced.
It is essential for the players to rest during the bye week since a tough period is in front of them. Will Prescott be able to resist the pressure and turn it into an advantage?
