Star Wars: The Force Awakens accumulated $250 million in global ticket sales including $120.5 million from domestic and $129.5 million from international box office as of Friday, according to data from The Numbers, a movie industry data provider operated by Nash Information Services LLC.
The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS) said the Star Wars: The Force Awakens is on track to break box office world records. The movie is expected to achieve $220 million in ticket sales in theaters across the United States and Canada until Sunday. The estimated amount will surpass the $208.8 million sales recorded by Jurassic World in June.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens already broke some records in the film industry and received positive reviews and strong recommendations from critics and moviegoers.
Its $120.5 million domestic box office sales through Friday, was the highest single-day ticket sales ever recorded. According to Walt Disney Co., that amount included $57 million during the first showings on Thursday night. The mass media and entertainment conglomerate expected the movie to collect another $60 million in ticket sales from domestic box office on Saturday.
Walt Disney Co started showing Star Wars: The Force Awakens in global markets on Wednesday. The movie set opening-day records in Australia, Brazil, Britain, France, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and other countries.
