It has been recently announced that, unfortunately, the highly-anticipated sequel of the Fast and Furious franchise will be delayed to 2024. However, the good news is that Hobbs/Shaw spinoff will see the light of day in 2019. For the time being, we know for sure that the spinoff will star Johnson and Jason Statham, but, who knows, perhaps more Fast and Furious cast members will join the two actors.
According to some sources, Johnson claims that others are more than welcome. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for this franchise that I’ve enjoyed droppin’ blood and sweat in over the years and my vision is to create greater opportunities for not only my fellow FF cast mates, but for other amazing actors as well who want to be a part of something new and cool,” the actor said.
Johnson also posted the following on his Instagram: “Pumped to expand and build out the FAST & FURIOUS universe in a cool, exciting way with our @sevenbucksprod, writer/producer Chris Morgan, producer Hiram Garcia and lead producer and my bigger twin, Neil Moritz.”
Then he added that he was grateful to the Universal Studios and Statham himself: “Thank you UNIVERSAL STUDIOS for being tremendous partners who see the big picture and for coming to us years ago with this spinoff idea. Huge shout to my brother, Jason Statham for the trust and wanting to create and deliver something fresh for the fans.”
Finally, he concluded: “I want to use my spinoff platform to create new characters that fans will ultimately love to have fun with in multiple chapters and platforms. Film, TV, Digital, Virtual Reality etc.. the more opportunities we can create the better for the fans.”
The Hobbs/Shaw spinoff will hit theaters on July 26, 2019, while Fast and Furious ninth installment will see the light of day on April 10, 2024. In the meantime, stay tuned for more news.
