Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Apple Watch Story So Far

Apple smartwatch

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is not providing updates about the number of Apple Watch units it has been able to sell since the device came to market late last month, but analysts say that demand for the wrist wearable has cooled. According to Slice Intelligence, Apple has possibly sold only 2.5 million units of Apple Watch, with daily orders averaging 30,000.

Apple received more than a million Apple Watch orders on the first day. The company has not been able to let anyone know the sales progress of its smartwatch, but analysts haven’t shied away from weighing on the matter. While some analysts have been able to raise their first year sales target for Apple Watch, others have cited underwhelming demand for the device to the point of lowering their estimates.

30,000 Watch orders per day

Slice Intelligence carried out a survey that showed it that nearly 2.5 million units of Apple Watch have been sold. More than half of the units said to have been sold so far had their orders placed on the first day. The demand for Apple Watch spiked in the early days of introduction, but things have cooled. Slice Intelligence figured out that Apple is selling just about 30,000 Apple Watch orders per day. At that rate, Apple could end up selling just about 11 million units in a year.

Lowered estimate

The soft demand for Apple Watch also pushed analysts at KGI Securities to lower their first year sales prediction for the device to about 15 million, nearly half its initial prediction.

Not everyone is seeing underwhelming performance for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s smartwatch. Analysts at Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) are very bullish about the sales prospects of the device and raised their first year sales estimate to 36 million units, better than the general consensus in the vicinity of 20-30 million units.
Although Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) sold 61.17 million units of iPhone in the last quarter, it seems there were fewer customers taking up Apple Watch alongside iPhone.
