We have been waiting for the new version of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 ever since the previous model left the market in 2014. That vehicle was equipped with the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 engine that generated 662 horsepower, a unit that is gone as well. So far we haven’t had the foggiest idea of how the new Shelby GT500 could look, but now we know.
The new rendering of the popular GT500 comes from OmniAuto. According to them, the new Shelby will come with the front fascia taken from the 2018 Ford Mustang, whereas a lot of design cues are coming from the familiar GT350 model. To be more precise, the blue stripes are expected to be featured as one of the things to come again.
The Shelby GT500 has stunning headlights, whereas the grille with the small bottom opening but large upper opening dominates the front end and reminds us of the standard Mustang. On the hood, we can see one giant vent in the center and two smaller vents on the sides, while the shape of the vehicle is going to stay identical.
We are so excited for the new Shelby GT500 not because these slight changes to styling (which are welcomed) but because it is going to be one of the most potent Mustangs ever created. According to the speculations, the GT500 will borrow the 5.2-liter flat-plane V8 unit from the smaller GT350, but the engine will be heavily modified to deliver 700+ hp!
The powerplant is going to be mated to a dual-clutch transmission, whereas the six-speed manual will be offered as an option. The Shelby GT500 will sit on the 20-inch wheels which are used for the concept and even though the production version will be moderately toned down, it is going to bring aggressiveness to the table, no doubt about it.
The new Shelby GT500 is projected to arrive sometime in 2018 with the rumors suggesting that it will shine at the Detroit Auto Show podium. The sales should commence later in the year with the estimated starting price close to $70,000.
