Ezekiel Elliott’s is an important piece for the Dallas Cowboys, but that six-game suspension he received still hangs over his head. Even though he plays as if he has no issues outside the field, or at least he is trying to do that, it must bother him to some level. However, things are changing, and on Wednesday, the NFL submitted its appeal of the injunction filed that allowed Elliott to continue playing.
NFL told 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, located in New Orleans that the case which is filed by the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) has “hopelessly doomed proceedings,” reports the Associated Press.
The second-year running back was suspended by the NFL in late August for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, but Elliott decided to appeal the decision. A league investigator recommended that Elliott should not be suspended at all because there is no sufficient evidence, but arbiter Harold Henderson decided to uphold the NFL’s ruling.
Columbus PD didn’t charge Elliott, who was said to be involved with the incidents regarding domestic abuse that had supposedly happened in 2016. After Henderson’s ruling, Elliott’s attorney requested an injunction which has prevented NFL from enforcing the suspension and this injunction is the reason why Elliott is still on the field in the Cowboys uniform. Now, NFL wants to appeal the injunction.
The league wanted to accelerate the entire process so that everything would be completed and the suspension enforced before Week 2 and the Cowboys’ duel against the Broncos. Since that didn’t happen, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals asked for documents from both sides and hearings scheduled for Monday, according to the Associated Press.
It is just a matter of time when Elliott’s suspension will be enforced, but there is a possibility that he plays the entire 2017 season and the six-game pause to come at the beginning of the next season. Follow us for more details.
