There are still people that believe the Earth is flat, and one of those is rapper B.o.B, and he is pretty open about it. He even got into heated argument with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson last year. However, he has taken it to the next level. Namely, B.o.B set up a GoFundMe page where people can donate money so that multiple satellites are launched to prove to the world that Earth is flat.
The campaign is named “Show B.o.B. the curve” and so far, he has raised $2,136, while his goal is $1 million. He made a starting donation just so you know. “What’s up guys! Help support B.o.B purchase and launch one, if not multiple, satellites into space. He’s donated 1k to the cause to get it going, and will be keeping you updated with step-by-step documentation of the process!” is the official description on GoFundMe.
Interestingly enough, the unusual campaign has attracted a large number of supporters, and one comment from David Good states: “I think this is a great idea. Someone needs to scientifically prove the Earth may be flat. Wouldn’t all of you naysayers be surprised if it is.”
Even if B.o.B collects the money, how he plans to launch the satellites? Let’s put that aside for one second. It is nice to see a rapper getting interested in science and wants to check out Flat-Earth hypothesis with the experiment. However, it has already been proved that the Earth is not flat and it’s been shown multiple times.
The problem B.o.B has is that he cannot see the curvature from the surface. For instance, the two cities which are 16 miles apart seem to be at the same level. How is that possible? Will B.o.B find the curve?
The explanation is that we are too small and close to the ground to see the curve and that the Earth is enormous. If B.o.B wants proof, he can always check out the photos taken in 1972 by the Apollo 17 crew that clearly show the roundness of the Earth. There are images from the Hubble Space Telescope behind which we can see the curve.
A flat Earth would defy the rules of physics, according to Michael from Vsauce who said: “Such a planet shape would be impossible. Anything as massive as the Earth shaped like a flat disc would, under its own gravity, naturally collapse back into a ball.”
