Up till now, we had no news if BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) had plans, if any, of launching the Leap in the US, but now thanks to a FCC sighting, we know that BlackBerry is considering a US launch. BlackBerry has approached FCC to get its new handset, dubbed as Leap approved for the launch in the United States as noted by CrackBerry.
Could Leap, give BlackBerry a big Leap over rivals?
The latest handsets are designed with much thought and targeted at the businesses that aim for speed and security. Productivity concerned employees too prefer BlackBerry devices and these are the target customers of the company. Blackberry Passport, Porsche P’9982 & P’9983, Classic are the few devices that the company released in the recent past. This had led the BlackBerry fans guessing what would be the next devices from the company be.
The next device to be released by the company is BlackBerry Leap, as announced by the Canadian smartphone maker at the MWC 2015 held in March. Leap, the next BlackBerry device will be loaded with amazing features just like all other recent devices released by the company. The 5-inch HD display device will come with a powerful 2,800mAh battery that has the capacity to last up to 25 hours. Also, Leap will sport an 8MP rear camera and an internal memory of 16GB. This device will be BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s weapon to compete with the existing full touch-screen devices from its competitors.
In Europe, the device will be released in April, but it is not known for now when will the people in the U.S. be able to buy the device. What BlackBerry has planned for the U.S. will probably be known by 4th of May, when its confidentiality agreement is said to expire.
BBM Protect for Android and iOS
Separately, BlackBerry is aiming to monetize BBM, and recently the enterprise grade BBM Protect has been released by the company for the Android and the iOS devices. This app negates the fear of hacking from the minds of the users as it is a high-security messaging app. Previously, the feature could be accessed only through the devices from BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB), but now it is possible to use it on Android and iOS devices as well.
