DaMarcus Lawrence is one of those players that can disrupt opponents game with ease. He always was one, just after the injury-plagued 2016 season, people seem to forget that. During the last season, Lawrence only played in nine games, starting three of those. This year DaMarcus is a new player, one ready to dominate.
Dallas Cowboys didn’t have an elite pass-rusher since DaMarcus Ware left the team. Lawrence, now a four-year player is on top of his game, which at the end of this season could bring him a massive raise, and make him a Cowboy for years to come.
During the Week 3 match vs. Arizona Cardinals, he recorded three sacks. At the moment he is leading the league in this category. Lawrence had 6.5 sacks through first three games. In Glendale, Arizona he had Jared Veldheer, who is a quality player, as his opponent and rendered him ineffective through the entire match. At the moments when Cardinals played on him with only one tight end, they were made to pay for their carelessness.
When the match finished, Lawrence was credited with six QB hits. Two of those came on Arizona final drive when it was of utmost importance. This year, with DaMarcus Lawrence, and Rod Marinelli’s four-man pass-rush Cowboys defense look much more composed than it did during 2016. Looking back at the divisional playoff round vs. Green Bay Packers, Cowboys allowed 326 passing yards. They recorded three sacks, all of which were produced by the defensive backs. Blitzing Aaron Rodgers was the only way to disrupt him, which Dallas Cowboys failed, and it can be seen by his 355 yards on the night.
This year, if Cowboys reach the playoffs, all of this might change. Yes, the Cowboys were beaten by Broncos last week, but now after emerging victorious against the Cardinals, they look calmed and composed. With a 2-1 score after three weeks, they are ready to continue the road to playoffs. And, if DaMarcus Lawrence continues his fine form, and with his ability to put the game into submission, Dallas Cowboys will emerge as strong contenders.
