WWE has always looked to attract big stars of the past and outside of the company that can help them bring as many fans as possible to watch their product. They have, more often than not, picked to push and to put some part-timers in the spotlight rather than to push the talent that should lead them in the future and make them a lot of money. One of the most recent examples of that is Bill Goldberg, a big star in the WCW and the WWE back in the day.
He signed a deal with the company to get back in the ring and face Brock Lesnar during the Survivor Series. Goldberg was a part of the WWE 2k17 marketing plans and was included in the game for the first time ever. That is why WWE turned to him to make a comeback.
Nobody really thought that he was going to beat Lesnar, but he got the job done in a stunning fashion. He was the Universal Champion, and he also had a big match with Lesnar at Mania. It is fair to say that he had a decent run in late 2016 and early 2017. Goldberg recently spoke about his possible return, and he said this.
“Ask your boss,” he said and continued “Hey, man, never say never, dude. Stranger things have happened. I did sit around for 13 years and then suddenly appear back in the ring. Let’s just say it ain’t gonna take nearly the effort to get me ready again that it did last time. So, I’ll see you on the rebound for damn sure.”
