BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB), which has diverted its focus towards services away from devices, in an announcement on Sunday said that it is working on expanding its cross-platform strategy, and on delivering the security, productivity and communication tools to all the devices that run on various platforms like iOS, Android or Windows. These services from the company already have a good reputation.
Widely adopting cross-platform strategy
The Canadian firms smartphone business has declined at a fast pace in the recent years, and to remain in the business, the Waterloo, Ontario-based company has now shifted all its focus to reap the maximum possible benefit from the security and software services. Such services from BlackBerry are the most popular in the industry because of the reliability factor, helping it to earn huge recognition.
“This is just a very natural evolution of taking our OS, the surfaces and security layers around it and putting it on others’ devices, so that our serviceable market is not only ‘BlackBerry’ devices, but all devices,” said BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) Chief Executive John Chen.
The mobile device management system has been revamped by the company in the last one and a half year. This will enable the clients of the including government agencies and large corporations, make use of the BES12 platform of the company to manage and secure the tablets and phones running on several different platforms such as Apple’s iOS system, Google Inc’s Android platform and Microsoft Corp’s Windows operating system.
New BlackBerry device soon
BlackBerry CEO, further, said that the company hopes to add all these features on other devices by the year end. Chen said that its own devices are also at the company’s priority, and will unveil a new device at the Barcelona congress on Tuesday.
