Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s second iteration of the Chromebook Pixel could hit the market anytime soon after Renee Niemi, who runs Android and Chrome programs confirmed the same at this year’s Team Work 2015. A point of concern has to do with the fact that the search giant will be making a small number of them meaning a number of developers may miss out on it in case of high demand.
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Chromebook Pixel 2 will primarily be a development machine for developers and won’t be pitched at a much less price for regular consumers. It is very likely that Pixel 2 will still maintain the original look, and design as the company moves to save on costs design manufacture and tooling as they will only be limited.
Chromebook is Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s ultra-premium laptop that was developed to showcase Chrome OS. It is not a consumer device but essentially designed to showcase the potential of the platform on a better hardware. Most Chromebooks are modest in features and price while the Pixel, on the other hand, is a premium product that is beautiful powerful and expensive. The category mostly sells into education and business markets.
Pixel 2 is poised to come out with a 12.85 inch screen with an eye-popping resolution. Built-in fans should be on offer with a new reversible Type-C USB ports. Niel affirming that Pixel 2 will be a mere proof of concept goes to question whether it will retain the touchscreen feature as well as a high-end processor and light bar or whether Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will decide to pursue an upgrade on this fronts.
Chromebook Pixel 2 might be the first device to ship with Chromium’s Freon pseudo display server while featuring Intel’s new Skylake processor. There is already speculation from Digitimes that the new Pixel 2 might run both on Chrome OS while also switching to an Android tablet experience when undocked
