Facebook owned apps dominating
The mobile analytics firm, released a report on app trends on Wednesday, rating the software’s that were mostly downloaded on the phones and tablets by people in 2014. The report informed that on combining the iOS and Android downloads, four of the Facebook owned apps were found to be the most downloaded ones.
Paper, Groups and Rooms are few homegrown apps of Facebook that did not showed up on any of the top charts that App Annie provided. Instagram and WhatsApp have both been acquired by Facebook.
App Annie categorizes games differently from other apps. If they were to be included in the same category, there was a good possibility that gaming titles like Candy Crush Saga and Subway Surfers might have garnered better numbers than the Facebook utilities. However, this in no way undermine Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s performance and its multiple-app strategy.
Facebook Messenger favorite in the U.S.
Japan-based mobile messaging service, Line, which is popular in several parts of Asia, topped the charts in terms of revenue in 2014. The third position in terms of the worldwide revenue from iOS and Google Play was held by Line Play. Second spot was held by Pandora. Among the gaming apps, Candy Crush Saga was the most downloaded app while in terms of the revenue Clash of Clans won the battle.
In the United States, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Messenger was the most downloaded app in 2014, and this was primarily due to the requirement of a separate standalone app from the social networker. Pandora was the top most music app in terms of download, and was the fourth most downloaded app.
App Annie, also, found that China is becoming the biggest market for iOS. In 2014, China bought in the third-highest revenue for the iOS overtaking the United Kingdom.
