Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has always matched consumer hunger for newer, faster technology innovations – be it a Smartwatch or last-mile internet connectivity, via hot air balloons in Australia. This time around it is focused on bringing in faster internet connectivity to North Carolina.
Work on Google Fiber, internet’s own ‘autobahn’s has already begun, and is expected to arrive in parts of East Coast, between Jan 28-29.
North Carolina’s Raleigh, Charlotte, Durham will be the first cities in the state to have Fibernet if Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) Tweetograms chatter proves to be true. There is no official confirmation of such connectivity by Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) as yet.
However, Google Inc. had indicated the high-powered technology scale-up to faster internet a year ago when it announced fibernet for 6 states by Feb of 2015.
Indications that work on fibernet was evident as local news reports of Google accepting bids from firms for fiber network have begun to appear. The approximate timelines by which Google expects the bidding firms to complete appears to be early quarter of 2015, according to local news reports. Other unconfirmed news, published in late December, had reported the formation of a company by Google to specifically implement high-speed internet in the state. There has been no official response from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) with respect to news reports.
Fiber Network thus far
Google’s ambitious gigabit-supportive internet speed was first talked about in mid-July of 2012. It was seen as an experimental project by Google Inc when it was introduced in Kansas City in Missouri. It was later offered in Provo, Utah as well as key Texas City, Austin.
The urgency with which the giant search engine company hopes to implement high speed internet was visible in the recent management changes it made to its Fibernet division. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) had slated Dennis Kish, an ex-Qualcomm employee to head Fibernet in September. Google Inc’s intent is clear, as it rushes in Fibernet across high internet consumer states in the country: to be a first-adapter of high-speed internet services and double user-base.
