Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) unveiled and shared various specs of the HDMI-dongle PC, which could free some of the space taken by bulky PCs on the desks. The HDMI stick is packed with a quad-core Bay Trail Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
Windows version to cost $149
The portable device will be available by the end of first-quarter for $149 (Windows version). The device has a Micro USB slot for expanding the memory, and the tiny computer will run on Windows 8.1, Linux or Android. There is a power button on one side of the dongle along with a full sized USB port, the aforementioned Micro-USB port, and a microSD slot for extra storage. The device comes with 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The Linux version of the stick will be priced at $89, and will have lighter hardware with just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage capacity. However, it will be a challenging task for Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) to push all applications in an affordable x86 PC.
Intel rocks CES 2015
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) recently talked about various things during the Consumer Electronics Show 2015, and attendees tag it as one of the best presentation in the CES 2015. The chipmaker didn’t mention Internet of Things even once throughout the conversation although it did talk about a more connected world. During the CES, Intel talked about the better connected world with autonomous drones, intelligent doorways, and sight-assisting jackets, but all without mentioning the most talked about phrase-Internet of Things.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) CEO Brian Krzanich looked more prepared and charismatic during the show unveiling the computer built into a Jacket button and a wristband that converts into a selfie flying camera. Krzanich announced that Intel will invest $300 million investment in math-related education and other programs to get more women employed and minorities in the technology and video game industry.
A major topic of discussion during the CES was Intel’s move in the computerized apparel and other sensor packed gadgets. Intel is hoping that the largely untapped markets will drive the growth as the demand for smartphone and tablets saturates.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) also showed Curie, a new button sized computer for smart clothes that will be launched later in 2015, and is packed with Bluetooth radio as well as Intel’s low-power chips from Quark family. The chipmaker has not launched any mainstream wearable till now.
