No matter what you think of 2016, it has been a great year for the car industry, and some of the most powerful cars have been produced this year. Some of the beasts are missing from the list, but here are 22 most powerful cars of 2016 – Part One.
1. 2016 Porsche 911 R
The Porsche 911 R is one of the purest vehicles on the market, and it is equipped with a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat six engine, that can be found in the GT3 RS, and which produces 500 horses. Listen to what one reviewer has to say about this vehicle: ”[when] the thing rips past 6,000 rpm and it all changes. Civility and sophistication disappear. The final 2,500 rpm or so are unfettered, incandescent, screaming rage. It just sounds like a charging pre-gunpowder army, concentrated into one 4.0-liter ball of fury.”
2. Tesla Model X P90D
This is the only electric vehicle that made it to the list thanks to the fascinating Ludicrous Mode. With this mode, you would think that you are driving a formula and not an electric vehicle. The Model X P90D produces 503 horsepower and Tesla deserves to be here.
3. 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
You may not have expected to see a muscle sedan from Alfa Romeo, but their Giulia Quadrifoglio is an attractive and powerful vehicle. The unit under the hood of this Alfa Romeo delivers 505 horsepower, and the car goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. The Giulia Quadrifoglio was the fastest four-passenger production car on Nurburgring track with the time of 7:32.
4. 2017 Maserati Quattroporte GTS
The exterior and interior of the new Quattroporte GTS have been improved, and it also received new equipment. Under the hood, it sports a twin turbo 3.8-liter V8 that is good for 523 hp and 524 lb-ft of torque. This Maserati comes only as an RWD vehicle because adding a front wheel drive would not be beneficial for the carmaker.
5. 2017 Bentley Mulsanne Speed
The 2017 Bentley Mulsanne Speed is a luxurious model with tremendous power, while its attractive interior and a strong engine are nicely combined with the old-school cabin. This model is equipped with a 6.75-liter pushrod V8 powerplant that produces 530 horsepower, and this is the last Bentley with this engine, that unit will be replaced with a new V12.
6. 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo
Don’t let the look of the Panamera deceive you, because this is a powerful vehicle. It’s a wonderful car that comes with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine good for 550 horses and 567 lb-ft of torque with 18.8 psi of peak boost. The Panamera Turbo can also brag with acceleration – it takes this car only 3.4 seconds (with the Sport Chrono pack) to reach 60 mph.
7. 2016 Superformance GT40 Mk. II
The GT40 Mk. II is produced in order to commemorate Ford’s win at Le Mans with Carroll Shelby back in 1966. Only 20 units have been assembled, and this model features Shelby’s aluminum-block 427 FE V8 that is rated at 550 horsepower. It goes from standstill to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and although this car is the 2016 model, we had to add it to the list.
8. 2017 Ferrari California T Handling Speciale
The 2017 Ferrari California T is equipped with the Handling Speciale Package that improves the speed and the stiffness of the vehicle. This Package costs additional $8,120, but it is worth every penny because the ride is firmer and it is more fun to sit behind the wheel of the California T. Its 3.9-liter twin turbo V8 unit produces 557 lb-ft of torque and 553 hp, while it completes the 62 mph run in just 3.6 seconds.
9. 2017 McLaren 570GT
Although the McLaren 570GT is considered a slightly softer version of the 570S, it is equipped with a 3.8-liter 90-degree, quad-cam, dry-sump, twin-turbo V8 powerplant that delivers 562 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The 570GT is a quick car with more comfortable interior than the 570S’s one.
10. 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn
The 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn is a truly authentic vehicle and driving this car is so pleasurable. Some parts that you can see on the Dawn are unique and cannot be found anywhere else. Although the engine doesn’t have the most beautiful sound, its output is 563 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque. The Dawn is another classic produced by Rolls-Royce.
11. 2017 Nissan GT-R
Every year, Nissan designers and engineers add something new to the GT-R, as this car doesn’t stop to amaze us. For 2017, there is an increase in power from 545 to 565 horses, whereas the powerplant produces 467 lb-ft of torque. GT-R is also one of the quickest accelerating vehicles on the market, and it is a serious competitor to the Audi R8, Porsche 911 or Chevy Corvette.
