We are expecting a new generation of the BMW X5 soon and just like it was the case with previous versions, the high-performance offering developed by the M division will be in the lineup!
Fortunately enough, we have spotted a prototype of the high-performance model, the X5 M!
Lowered suspension, huge wheels, a quad-tip exhaust pipe arrangement and large intakes which are a trademark of their own for an M car are featured on the spied vehicle!
Everybody’s been wondering why the current X5 that had arrived in 2014 had its X5 M model come only a year later. This quick changeover is due to the introduction of a new modular platform across the range. And that is a no brainer since the current X5 runs on a platform that dates back to 2007.
The aforementioned modular platform at hand is the SUV version of BMW’s CLAR design that had its debut in the 2016 7-Series. This new platform guarantees less weight on the redesigned X5 which means easier maneuvering behind the wheel. And that equates to more fun.
This vehicle will run on an upgraded version of the current X5 M’s 4.4.-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. This reworked mill will have its debut in a redesigned M5, and it should be able to produce around 600 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque on tap. And besides that, we should also get better fuel-economy too.
An 8-speed automatic will be connected to the engine and to a rear biased all-wheel-drive system. This setup is known as ‘M xDrive’ which will also debut in the refreshed M5. The main thing about this system is that it provides you with the option to switch into rear-wheel drive mod however it is still unknown whether this feature will be a part of the new X5 M.
