In 2013, Jaguar launched the F-Type and entered the new era, while just two years later, the British carmaker introduced the F-Pace, the first SUV assembled by the famous company. In 2016, the all-electric crossover named I-Pace followed, and it was unveiled at the 2016 LA Auto Show. The I-Pace quickly became one of the most renowned Jags in the market and instead of the expected I4s, V6s and V8s it features a pair of electric motors and a battery pack. Now, we want to know more about the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace.
Exterior
The test vehicle has been spotted on the street, and the camouflage is thick, which doesn’t stop us from discussing the new car. The front end will remain the same as the one on the concept with clearly visible front grille and headlights, but the bumper features different outlets. Furthermore, the front end is less aggressive than the concept’s nose, whereas the vents which are located below the headlamps are small. Also, the hood lost its original size, and it doesn’t open just above the grille anymore.
The sides of the vehicle will remain identical to the ones of the concept, and the couple-like roof will be kept on the production model. However, wheels will be smaller and the tires more conventional while the rear door window is slightly modified.
As you could have guessed, the rear end will also heavily resemble the concept. The same notchback design is clearly visible, and the fascia is simple with narrow taillights similar to the ones on the F-Type and F-Pace models. The bumper has changed significantly, and there are no large outlets which are supposed to imitate the sporty exhaust pipes. Moreover, the roof spoiler doesn’t extend as much toward the decklid as the one on the concept.
2019 Jaguar I-Pace Interior
The photographers couldn’t catch the interior of the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace, but we will take a lucky guess – since the exterior is so similar to the concept, we believe that the cabin will go through minor changes as well.
The I-Pace concept came out with the new cockpit named “flightdeck” and we saw three screens, two of which were in the center console and one as a part of the instrument cluster. Also, gearshift buttons are located in the floating metal legs whereas the infotainment system is expected to be overhauled variant of the Jaguar’s latest interface. The passengers will feel comfortable inside the I-Pace because of soft-touch surfaces and the massive panoramic glass roof that allows natural light inside the cabin.
The dashboard design is clean and without any unnecessary buttons and knobs. The concept’s interior is a beautiful place to be in. The production version should be equipped with wood details and polished metal inserts while the seating position of the I-Pace is lower than expected.
Powertrain
The powertrain of the concept will be carried over to the production vehicle, so nothing is mysterious here. The two electric motors on the show car produce 394 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, and that may be changed slightly in the production version, but 4WD configuration will be offered for sure.
According to the manufacturer, the concept goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, and this is something to look forward to. They also mentioned that the performance comes with “exceptional ride quality and authentic handling.”
The range of the new I-Pace on the NEDC cycle is estimated at over 500 km, but it will be interesting to see at how much will EPA rate it and if it will be close to 300 miles. What this means is that the Tesla Model X gets a decent competition. The new Jaguar is also fast to recharge, and the battery level can reach 80% in just 90 minutes and 100% in slightly over two hours with the 50kW DC charger.
Jaguar I Pace Price
The official pricing has not been unveiled yet, but we know for a fact that the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace will not be affordable. First of all, it is an all-electric vehicle, and secondly, it comes from Jaguar, so we expect a stock version to be at least $50,000. Once it goes on sale, it will challenge the Tesla Model X and Tesla Model Y.
