The 2019 BMW 1 Series prototype has been spotted testing at the world’s most famous racetrack this week. This 1 Series seen at the Nurburgring is different from the vehicle caught in May, as it comes with a new front bumper which has a radar sensor. This addition is probably used for autonomous emergency braking and radar cruise control system, but that is not the only change as the car also sported different alloy wheels.
The BMW’s next-generation model is going to switch from RWD to both FWD and AWD configuration, and it will be based on the UKL platform that also underpins 2 Series Active Tourer, X1, and the entire Mini range.
Even though some BMW aficionados may be disappointed with the introduction of the FWD system, this move should increase the practicality of the 1 Series, improve the amount of legroom for rear passengers and add extra cargo space.
Furthermore, the 2019 BMW 1 Series will sport the three- and four-cylinder units and this indicates that the ongoing M140i with a turbo straight-six will be the last of its kind. There will be numerous turbocharged petrol and diesel engines in the lineup with the PHEV and all-electric vehicle remaining a possibility.
2019 BMW 1 Series Release Date
A model that was spotted at the Nurburgring track is probably the performance oriented M140i xDrive which brings the 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder unit that is going to be replaced. We expect to see the 2019 BMW 1 Series sometime next year, but it will not go on sale until either late 2018 or early 2019 because the ongoing version has just been refreshed.
