The second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan will hit the US market in summer 2017. Luckily, we got a chance to see the long-wheelbase 2018 model, which was revealed just before the Detroit Auto Show. This model also goes by the name of Tiguan Allspace.
The new Tiguan was introduced for the first time at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2015, and the reason why it hasn’t reached the US yet is because of the fact that the American version is stretched compared to the model sold in Europe. Both versions are based on the MQB platform, but the one which will be sold in the States is 185.2 inches long, and it lies on a 109.9-inch wheelbase. The American version is 10.7 inches longer, and it has 4.4-inch longer wheelbase, and the reason for these modifications is that the US Tiguan will have a third-row seat.
There will be no changes under the hood, and the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a 2.0-liter TSI gas engine that produces 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, and it will be an FWD model, while the 4Motion will be offered as an option. Inside, the owners will enjoy the new Digital Cockpit and various active safety features. The new model boasts space and it will have 57 percent more cargo capacity compared to the previous version, but we expect the cargo space to be reduced in the Tiguan with the third row.
