2018 Volkswagen Atlas revealed its pricing – $30,000

If VW wants to return to the US market and achieve any kind of success, they must know that they can do that through crossovers and SUVs. Only with that, they can have a go at regaining some of the trust from the US public that they’ve lost thanks to the scandal they had a while back. But to return to the topic, the vehicle or vehicles that are going to change this situation in favor of the German company are the much awaited Atlas and the long-wheelbase Tiguan (that just debuted this weekend at the Detroit Auto Show). The Atlas is going to be sold first, sometime this spring and its price will be, as the title says – $30,000.

Now for some details. The mentioned price is for the base trim of the SUV that hosts front-wheel drive and the 2.0 L turbo four cylinder engine. While the other trim levels haven’t been specified in the details, by the VW, we know that the fully equipped Atlas should cost somewhere around $48,000 and that is an SEL trim with the V6, AWD, and God knows how much other treats put inside it. But this is kinda unclear especially when the R-Line trim of the Atlas is considered (also debuting at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show), meaning that the R-Line is going to the market at the same price of $48,000, or are we going to have to pony up extra cash for that as well?

Besides these, VW is announcing two new utility vehicles which will arrive at the US shores and all of these will be available by 2024. Although it isn’t confirmed which other two models are going to join this merry company, one safe bet though is the next-gen Touareg, while the other one could be a lot smaller SUV which will find its way behind what is now a three-row Tiguan.

To keep in line with the trends, Volkswagen also announced that the electrification will be a huge part of the future of the brand on the US soil. That electrification will most likely extend to the company’s crossover and SUV lineup, and the best preview of that future strategy will be in Detroit in the form of the I.D. Buzz Concept that will be shown there. The electric and autonomous Microbus is probably very far from the production feasibility, but the hopes are high, and thanks to everything moving faster, this one should come in the near future to production form. According to reports, this could happen probably sooner than expected.
