Plug-in hybrid variants of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have been tested in winter conditions as they are supposed to be launched in 2018. The fourth-generation Range Rover was slightly modified for 2017 MY, and the photos you can see here give us an insight into hybrid models that will be added to the range next year.
Despite the camouflage, we can see that these test vehicles are equipped with a new front bumper and grille that is said to come with the charging port. What is also new on the plug-in versions are the headlights and taillights.
According to the warning stickers that are visible at the front and the rear end, we can conclude that these vehicles are electrified, or to be more precise, they come with the electric motor. A four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine is combined with an electric unit that is supplied from a lithium-ion battery for the complete output of 295 bhp.
It is highly possible that Range Rover will come with an electric-only range and if it does, the range will be between 20 and 30 miles per charge. The biggest rival of the new 2018 Range Rover Plug-In Hybrid Sport model will be the BMW X5 xDrive40e, and it is expected that the Range Rover is going to have better performances than BMW competitor.
Because of a new system, the large SUV will have very low CO2 emissions and the system will probably be used in the upcoming models of the Jaguar F-Pace – XF and XJ. Range Rover has offered a diesel-electric hybrid version since 2013, but now we will see a brand-new powertrain. The customers can choose between diesel and petrol 3.0-liter V6 engine, 4.4-liter diesel V8 and the most powerful 5.0-liter V8 for the current Range Rover model.
Stay tuned for more details.
