The popularity of Pontiac and especially few of its muscle car models was so high that even after its shutdown few small companies tried to deliver a successor. Best one certainly is the TransAm Depot that bought the rights to the name and offered few quite impressive successors to the icon, but, is this 2018 Pontiac Trans AM good enough to be considered as a true heir.
It is incredible how much time they spend on details and to bring everything as close as possible to the original. One of the latest moves is the Burt Reynolds, original Bandit, signing of the special model that this company introduced.
Let’s first take a look at the current offering on the muscle car market. Modern times are coming to the segment, and we are now even getting 2.0 liter I4 turbo under the hood of the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro that is capable of producing 275 hp. Ford Mustang closely follows with its 2.3-liter EcoBoost unit with 310 hp while the Dodge Challenger is the only one that didn’t introduce turbo unit for its base version.
Don’t get us wrong, all those turbocharged engines are quick, very quick for its size but we are simply used to large engines that can simply jump when you push the pedal to the metal. All these muscle cars are also offered with big naturally aspirated units, and as the cherry on top, we have supercharged versions that go to over 700 hp.
Back to the topic, 2018 Pontiac Trans AM and its special Bandit Edition. There are four versions when it comes to performances. Stage I offers 550 hp meaning that you will be able to compete and beat most of those muscle cars currently available. If that is not enough, you can opt for the Stage II that with few tweaks and more boost from supercharger pumps out 650 hp.
Next in line is the Stage III and this one goes over 700 hp, or to be more precise, 720 hp. Top of the line is the 840 Extreme Performance Package and just by looking at its name you can conclude that it brings incredible 840 hp.
There are few things that further separates this 2018 Trans AM from the rest of bunch, and those include the number of produced models. Only 77 will be delivered meaning that this is a vehicle worthy of pretty much any collection and you will have a truly different muscle car compared to other modern iterations available on the market.
