For the first time, we have had a chance to see the prototype of the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross undergoing some tests. The new model from Japanese brand will be introduced at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show in March, and the SUV will be positioned between the compact Outlander Sport and the mid-size Outlander.

The new Eclipse Cross will be sportier, and it is expected to be more beautiful than other SUVs produced by Mitsubishi. Some of the rivals of this vehicle will be the BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, and Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, but what separates the Mitsubishi from the rest is a significantly lower price tag.

The design of the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is based on the XR-PHEV concept introduced in 2013. This new vehicle will come with the front face that represents the shield, whereas, on the rear end, the taillamps will be positioned quite high. Since we are getting SUV that will be closely based on the concept, we can pretty much know what to expect from the production ready version.

The Eclipse Cross will be powered by an I4 engine, while a plug-in car will arrive soon after the regular variant. According to reports and announcements, we can expect to see the new vehicle from Japan to join the lineup later in 2017 as a 2018 model.

Mitsubishi has also presented a version of the Eclipse Cross with the Evolution name on it prior to the XR-PHEV concept. This is a performance-oriented crossover with plug-in hybrid power, an 8-speed dual clutch transmission, and the S-AWC all-wheel drive as it can represent a model that will replace the Lancer Evolution.

What do you think about the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross? More details about this car will be known once the Geneva Auto Show starts, so stay tuned.
