2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift photographed without any camouflage on!

Apparently, the spy photographers managed to catch this 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift completely “naked.” The pictures we have in front of us are courtesy of SaudiShift, and they show us clear insight into changes that this vehicle will offer.

Exterior

This S-Class has a much cleaner front bumper design with a chrome bar running across the width of the lower air intake area. The grille has also been totally revised, and it now has new elliptical chrome slats. But wait that is not all! The internals of the Multibeam LED headlamps has also been altered. The rear end (unfortunately) did not “suffer” that many changes, just some minor bits and pieces are different on the rear bumper, wrapped up with the new chrome bar that joins the two exhaust tip surrounds.

Interior will now benefit from new and slightly bigger displays for the infotainment and instrumentation systems. Like on the most recent Mercedes-Benz models, the screens on this one as well have been designed in a way that they look like one continuous unit. What probably caught your eye a little before this is the new three-spoke steering wheel that now adorns the interior instead the old two spoke one.

The model we have in these pictures clearly shows the S560 4Matic badges on the trunk lid. The S560 badge could be used in the USA in order to replace the S550 one, but for the rest of the world, the S550 is sold as the S500. What is yet unknown is whether the German carmaker intends to unify this variant under one global name, because it sometimes gets confusing. Right?

Engine

According to some statements that company representatives gave earlier, they intend to lose the current car’s 450 HP 4.7 L twin turbo V8 and give the new facelifted S-Class a new twin-turbocharged 4.0 L V8 that offers incredible 476 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque. What is another interesting thing, regarding the engine compartment of this vehicle, is the fact that it will be the first model in the company’s range to use their new inline six-cylinder engines, including the new 3.0 L turbocharged straight-six petrol unit with 402 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque. There is a huge possibility that the company’s new turbo-diesel straight-six, with 308 HP and 479 lb-ft of torque, will debut in the facelifted S-Class sedan.

If we are to listen to the rumors online, then we could expect this 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift to debut on either the Shanghai motor show or New York motor show, both of which take place in April. Yay!
