Judging by the photos, a new overhauled Mazda CX-5 will appear soon. The prototype is shown in the shots, and this compact SUV should go on sale in 2017 as a 2018 model.
The car might appear even this year in November at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show.
Considering that the CX-5 is one of Mazda’s models that drivers love the most the car design will be crucial. As it seems, the CX-5 will take some lines from the latest CX-9.
A newly redesigned platform will be integrated into the new Mazda and it will be not only light but also flexible enough for other Mazda cars.
Speaking of the engine, the CX-9 is equipped with the latest turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4, but that unit probably won’t find its way to the CX-5. The most expected solution is the current pair of inline-4s with slight upgrades. So the options are a 2.0-liter that produces 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque and a more powerful 2.5-liter producing 184 hp and 185 lb-ft.
Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive should remain as options, as well as manual and automatic transmission. As for the technology, CX-5 will have a new color head-up display. Moreover, safety features such as blind spot and a warning system that tells you if you are switching lanes unintentionally are also integrated as well as a traffic sign recognition system.
It is estimated that the starting price will be close to the current model – $22,675.
